Who We Are
The Cascadia Botanical Institute is a collective of professional herbalists and educators offering courses in the Pacific Northwest. The school teaches a range of skills from plant identification, cultivation, medicine making, herbal chemistry, holistic healthcare, food preservation and more. Through evening lectures, weekend workshops, and single day field trips, these stand-alone opportunities allow participants to focus on material that’s most relevant to their needs in an affordable and efficient way.
Our instructional staff has been teaching independently for over 18 years and includes educators, artists, botanists, biologists, herbalists, gardeners, and healthcare practitioners. Through our collaboration, we are excited to combine our unique perspectives and backgrounds providing a holistic experience to the classroom. We are deeply committed to promoting creativity, sustainability, community wellness, and the conservation of biodiversity. These ethics infuse all of our course offerings.

In general, prepayment via the website is encouraged as it gives us an idea of how to plan our workshops. If you prefer to pay in cash, please contact the instructor to let them know of your plans. Drop-ins may be permitted for certain classes or presentations. Occasionally individual instructors may be able to offer work-trade options, this will be listed in the class notes for each Class or Workshop.
Most of our offerings take place in and around the Eugene/Springfield area in the southern Willamette Valley. Because of the diverse nature of these experiences, the locations will vary with each class. In addition to indoor classroom and workshop spaces, we are thrilled to live in a region of impressive natural beauty and often use the outdoors as our class space. Please see our Classes & Workshops for details.
